ARTWALK CURATES A NEW EXHIBITION AT SPIRIT STUDIO

David, I’m curating a group show on the theme “Resurrection”.  You have anything you want to exhibit?”

Pause.  “A fly.  I have a pencil drawing of a fly.”

So it began.  David Martin didn’t mention the fly is dead, and 6×9 feet, not right away.

It seems the concept “resurrection” is a kind of spiritual ink blot, a Roschach test of one’s heart lines.  Staring at the paintings Artifice members (Art Institute-Hollywood) contributed to the exhibition following their Monster Rally, I find a narrative thread and hang them accordingly.  Call it “Choose Your Adventure” or “The Way of the Cross.”

Trix’s contributes portraits, an Iraq war veteran, wounded but not broken – Phoenix rising?   On the other side of the door hang Sprouts 126’s “Living Dead Girl,” “+” and “Guadelupe”.  Across the room, big as bliss, hangs Gabriel Ferrer’s group including “Bliss,”  Randy Kimmler’s “Almost Resurrection,”  and Michael Hirabayashi’s stunning group of paintings and photography.

The show opens for the Easter Vigil on March 30th 2013, with a closing reception to be announced.

Work with an artist on this terrific LA Project this week

Dreams Are People Too, Detail, 2011
acrylic, spray paint, ink, http://www.ronlsaunders.com/

This month, Los Angeles-based artist Ariel Erestingcol is completing an exciting new body of work using his method of assembling colored beads into a grid pattern which in the end becomes a realistic image at a distance. For him, this project is a really important opportunity, but he needs assistance to complete it by the end of the month.

We need volunteers to help out whenever you can this week. Ideally we will have no more than 4 or 5 adults at a time in his studio in downtown Los Angeles. If you have kids, its OK, even kids can help with separating the colored beads as they come in a mixed bag!

This is a great chance to visit a working artist studio, converse with interesting people, or just meditate while doing something creative, contribute to a local artist’s project which should give him much needed exposure, AND earn time credits while doing it!

Let me know if you’d like to earn some easy time dollars and when you can be available. Once you email, I can provide the address and further details.
